Launch of SMDA Testing Service

The SMDA Scheme Operator (SO) is delighted to announce the launch of the Smart Metering Device Assurance (SMDA) testing service.

Rosie McGlynn, the Chair of the SMDA Company said:
“SMDA Co. is delighted with the launch of the SMDA scheme services, which marks a significant milestone in the smart metering roll out plans. The SMDA scheme is result of a successful cross-industry cooperation and will provide confidence to consumers, suppliers, manufactures and financiers that smart metering equipment will work effectively in a smart environment.”

Gemserv was appointed as the SMDA SO in January 2015 following a competitive tender and is working in a delivery consortium with TÜV SÜD, CACI Ltd, NMi Certin B.V. and Critical Software to establish and deliver SMDA as an independent assurance scheme encompassing interoperability and interchangeability testing for smart metering equipment.

Alex Goody, Executive Director at Gemserv Ltd said:“The SMDA scheme fulfils an important role in the GB smart metering rollout in providing assurance that smart metering equipment is both interoperable and interchangeable, helping to make a future digitalised energy market work. We’ve already signed the first testing contracts with early movers and look forward to the first devices achieving SMDA Assurance later this year.”

The service is now available for electricity smart metering equipment, gas smart metering equipment, in-home displays and pre-payment metering interface devices. Manufacturers who wish to commence testing of their smart metering devices are invited to contact NMi Certin B.V, the appointed SMDA Test House.

Henri Schouten, Business Development Manager – Utilities at NMi Certin B.V., added: “Following the appointment of NMi Certin B.V as the SMDA Test House in late 2016, we are now delighted to welcome the smart device manufacturers to our testing laboratory in Southampton. We are looking forward to working with the meter manufacturers to help them bring SMDA assured devices to the UK market.”

Applications for testing can be made to the SMDA Test House via www.nmi.nl/smda or by contacting NMi Certin B.V. via smda@nmi.nl.
